In lieu of a houseplant, I sent her some felt <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Craspedia\" target=\"_blank\">craspedia<\/a>, otherwise known as billy balls. I was planning on writing up a tutorial on how I made them, but somebody already <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designsponge.com\/2011\/06\/diy-project-felt-billy-balls.html\" target=\"_blank\">beat me to it<\/a>. In addition to wet-felting, I went back with a felting needle to give them a little extra texture. And instead of floral wire, each is glued to the top of a long, thin stick. I also kept mine a little larger, for a more dramatic look.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">She also got the milk glass vase and a batch of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/Rosemary-Shortbread-107452\" target=\"_blank\">rosemary shortbread<\/a>, because it&#8217;s crazy good and it travels well. I love sending packages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Other news:<br \/>\n&#8211; I&#8217;ve become increasingly obsessed with cake decorating techniques. More on that later.<br \/>\n&#8211; I&#8217;m planning my thanksgiving dessert contribution with the help of <a href=\"http:\/\/amzn.to\/23ZFBfl\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a>.<br \/>\n&#8211; I spent more time watching <a href=\"http:\/\/new.livestream.com\/accounts\/398160\/events\/1594566\/player_pop_up\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> yesterday than I should probably admit.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My little sister and her friends recently moved into a house in my old neighborhood in Houston.
