They are awesome people who deserve equally awesome baby gifts, so I bought some soft yarn and some velvety pigskin suede and got to work.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ravelry.com\/patterns\/library\/baby-bear-hat-8\" target=\"_blank\">baby bear hat<\/a> is a super quick project&#8211; I stitched the whole thing up while watching a movie. The yarn I used was a cozy acrylic\/wool blend that can be put through the washer, which is a pretty important feature of any knitted baby accessory. The moccasins are based on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unicornpara.de\/2013\/08\/14\/baby-diy-scallop-trim-suede-moccasins\/\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> pattern, which is easy to adjust for different sizes of little feet. I love the scalloped edges in the original pattern, but I wanted to make something a little less girly, so I redrafted the pieces so they&#8217;d have a simple fringe edge. This tomato-red suede is so beautiful! I wish I had some shoes made out of it.<\/p>\n<p>Other things:<br \/>\n&#8211; I&#8217;ve got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/Beef-Stew-with-Potatoes-and-Carrots-350935\" target=\"_blank\">this<\/a> bubbling away in the oven, and it&#8217;s making my house smell incredible.<br \/>\n&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/childerhouseblog\/15033903741\/in\/photostream\/\" target=\"_blank\">This<\/a> dessert was a huge hit and made use of some red currants I couldn&#8217;t resist buying.<br \/>\n&#8211; Is it weird that I want to be best friends with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=f2Alwt2kCro\" target=\"_blank\">this guy<\/a>?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some dear friends of ours are expecting, and I could not be more excited!
