The prospect of darning this hole in my favorite cardigan gave me such a headache, it was relegated to my pile of “to do” projects and all but forgotten. Now that I’ve got some free time, I’m trying to make a dent in that pile, and decided a much easier alternative to darning was to slap on some elbow patches.
The leather I have on hand is a bit thick for elbow patches, but I thinned it down and used this template to get the shape just right. I used embroidery floss and lots of patient stitching to attach the patches to the sleeves, and stuck an iron-on patch on the inside of the damaged elbow to prevent further unraveling. I love rescuing a piece of clothing– especially when I can add some bookish flair.
